    About New Westminster

New Westminster was British Columbia’s original capital, and its downtown still carries that history along Columbia Street’s Golden Mile of heritage storefronts. The Quay stretches along the Fraser River with a flat, fully accessible boardwalk, River Market, and a small ferry over to Queensborough. The Anvil Centre anchors the arts scene where Columbia Street’s historic core meets the waterfront, and the Expo Line SkyTrain drops riders right into the middle of it all, about 25 minutes from downtown Vancouver.

    What to Love

Heritage storefronts along Columbia Street’s Golden Mile mixed with new restaurants, breweries, and shops. A fully accessible waterfront boardwalk along the Fraser River, with River Market and Quayside Park. Direct Expo Line access into Vancouver, Burnaby, and Surrey. A packed festival calendar — the Hyack Festival, River Fest, the Columbia StrEAT Food Truck Fest, and the BC Cultural Crawl. A small-city feel with genuinely walkable density.

    The Lifestyle

Mornings start with a coffee and a walk along the Quayside Boardwalk, or a browse through River Market before the Fraser wakes up. Lunch is a patio along Columbia Street or a picnic at Quayside Park. Evenings mean a craft beer at one of the local breweries, dinner at a Columbia Street restaurant, or a show at the Anvil Centre. Weekends bring festivals most of the year, a Q to Q ferry ride over to Queensborough, or a quick SkyTrain trip into Vancouver or Burnaby when you want more options.
